The Madison Park Apartments is a 98 unit, five story, wood frame apartment building with brick foundation. It was damaged during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and thus, vacant until the 1984 renovation by East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation. Built in 1908 and on the National Register of Historic Places, the projects’ financing included historic preservation tax credits. Improvements include seismic, plumbing and electrical upgrades, restoration of historical detailing and provision of accessibility for five apartments, all public spaces and entry. Asian Neighborhood Design received a Design Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Historic Preservation from California Preservation Foundation for Madison Park Apartments in 1996. |
