HOMEWORK CLUB: Established in 2000,
at Minna Russ Family Apartments, the homework club has developed a tutorial
assistance program for children who reside in the SOMA area. Through
the assistance of volunteers, the Homework club has helped raise the
level of achievement for most of the students participating in this
program. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
FINANCIAL LITERACY: In an effort
to provide further assistance to our residents in their quest to become
homeowners, we have developed a financial literacy program that educates
residents about issues ranging from budgeting, establishing and repairing
credit, along with other valuable resources to help them along the way.
We are also teaching young people the importance of
savings and other financial lessons, through a series of mock financial
excercises, rewarding them at the end of school year, if they meet their
goal.
